6 May (Saturday): PAPER MAKING DAY– Beginners

10am – 1pm HAND PAPER MAKING – Introduction to traditional and contemporary techniques of making beautiful handmade papers from pure plant fibres of cotton and mulberry bush and a range of recycled materials.

Participants will learn about basic processes, pulp making, suitable materials and the use of plant fibre linters.

Inclusions and decorative methods are also covered.

10.30am – 5pm BATIK Workshop – Beginners
A full day programme introducing an ancient technique of fabric dyeing where hot wax is used as a resist.

Participants will learn all necessary basic techniques – and complete three small/medium batik pieces with up to 4 colours on cotton fabric and/or paper.
€ 75 for the full day, including all materials

The workshop introduces wet felting techniques using dyed and un-dyed Merino wool and silk fibre inclusions.
Learn to design and make a unique wall piece or a small but beautiful felted bag. Participants will make a small practice piece before progressing to a larger project.

€ 75 for the full day, including all materials

10.30am – 5.30pm Paper Making and Paper Art Follow-on Course – Advanced Level

Designed for participants who already work with paper/fibre based processes, this course offers assistance and guidance in areas of three dimensional, sculptural and installation based works, experimental processes of batik, wax based works on paper, paper dyeing and texturing. It also covers ideas for the preparation and use of plant based pulps (without added chemicals). Participants are encouraged to bring their own ideas and questions into the workshop and invited to show and discuss previous works and projects.

Places are limited for 5 participants.
€ 80 for the full day, including all materials

It also covers ideas for the preparation and use of plant based pulps (without added chemicals). The day also includes a short slideshow presentation on examples of contemporary paper art and paper making.

HALLOWEEN MASK MAKING for CHILDREN and FAMILIES during MIDTERM BREAK
MAKE and DECORATE YOUR OWN UNIQUE MASKS!

You need a family member or a friend to work together with: you will be sculpting your masks on each others faces using plaster cloth. The mask takes your facial features and it will only fit you!

After a short drying time you can paint and decorate your mask to suit your HALLOWEEN outfit or any design/style you wish.

Suitable for children from 6/7 years of age. Younger children can participate in mask painting and decorating, working on pre-made paper masks.

26 – 30 OCTOBER

(approx. 1 hour -1 hour 30 min activity)

KOZO Studio and Gallery offers a professional and practical arts programme for primary schools nationwide since 2006.

Established and managed by Tunde Toth Visual Arts Practitioner and Arts Educator, the Studio provides workshops, art lessons and visual art projects that are:

  • practical, inclusive and non-competitive
  • planned and structured to suit particular age groups
  • affordable and tailored to suit specific interests or the school`s preferences
  • designed to support individual ideas and thinking through the creation of artistic and unique work in the classroom.
  • linked to and contribute to the delivery of the Visual Arts Curriculum

The new programme of workshops and participatory projects is now available:

  • TRADITIONAL HAND PAPER MAKING – fibre and paper construction

  • MASK MAKING / SCULPTURAL works – 3D construction, sculpture, modelling
  • TAPESTRY WEAVING, PAPER WEAVING and TEXTILE ART projects – fabric and fibre / construction
  • THE BUTTERFLY PROJECT – an ongoing interactive installation project

Workshop details / Course Descriptions

Prices include:

  • Fees for one course / workshop for one class (up to 30 children in a class), all preparation, set up/clean up.
  • Art materials for one participating class (schools might need to provide paint brushes, paint trays, drying racks etc)
  • Travel costs: for one return journey from KOZO Studio to the school; within 40km radius. PLEASE ADD: € 15 for longer distances or ask for a quote. In case of booking multiple workshops for the same day: costs will be reduced and discounts may be offered.

Using prepared sheep`s wool (MERINO) with olive oil soap and warm water, children will create small felted pieces

(images/pictures/animal figures/beads/flowers etc)

SILK FIBRE PAPER MAKING  Fabric/fibre/construction, painting, colour schemes

2nd – 6th class      

TRADITIONAL HAND PAPER MAKING  Fibre and paper construction

ALL age groups     

Traditional and contemporary hand papermaking techniques introduced: children will learn to create beautiful, textured handmade papers using plant fibre and recycled material pulps (traditional processes) and silk fibres with dyes, silk threads, fabrics etc (Silk Paper making).

Both are fascinating and very rewarding processes, resulting in unique pieces for decoration and further works: the handmade papers are ideal for painting classes, book making, sewing/stitching/ classroom displays/card making/collages….etc.

2hrs minimum for each process

€ 140 per workshop

PRINT MAKING techniques and processes    Print making, texture, colour

ALL age groups

Techniques include: safe processes of intaglio (dry point), mono prints, relief prints using foam sheets and mark making, collograph printing (making collage images), explorations of textures.

Times required vary

between 1hr – 2 hrs 30 min

MASK MAKING / SCULPTURAL WORKS   3D construction, sculpture, modelling

4th – 6th Class

Mask making using plaster cloth shaped and sculpted on each other`s faces – resulting in individual, unique masks that can be also painted/decorated once dry. (Masks will need drying time before they can be painted in a separate session)

This is a challenging but safe process for older children.

Sculptural works: Using plaster cloth on shapes made from

soft wires.

THE BUTTERFLY PROJECT   Interactive installation project

ALL age groups

The Butterfly Project is an ongoing interactive installation project that travels to primary schools in Co. Kilkenny and surrounding areas. It introduces processes of print making, Origami and installation/construction resulting in a site-specific installation in the school building.

Minimum of 3 workshop sessions are required. Pricing and quotes are offered individually for schools.
